Google Updates Maps With Over 250,000 Miles Of Street View Images

Google announced early Thursday morning on their Lat-Long blog that they would be launching a comprehensive update to the Street View asset of Google Maps. This enhancement, labeled the “biggest ever update,” doubles the number of special collections and updates over 250,000 miles of roads around the world.

According to Google, Street View coverage is expanding “in Macau, Singapore, Sweden, the U.S., Thailand, Taiwan, Italy, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway and Canada.” Furthermore, special collections will launch in South Africa, Japan, Spain, France, Brazil and Mexico.

Street View now has extended coverage of several parks, city centers, castles, and tourist centers. Google distinctively provided a few examples such as the “Catherine Palace and Ferapontov monastery in Russia” and the Stanley Park in Vancouver, Canada.

All changes noted throughout the post have went active on the Google Maps website, web-app, and Android application on Thursday. Google wants users to stay tuned for future similar updates as they endure a future of comprehensive and useful updates.
