Apple May Launch 11- And 13-Inch Retina MacBook Air During Q3

Reports regarding Apple’s next iteration of MacBook Air machines have been mixed so far. First, we were told that Apple may include a Retina display in the upcoming MacBook Air models, then the possibility was trashed. Now, a Taiwanese publication has claimed, yet again, that Apple will launch Retina-equipped 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air models during Q3.

MacBook Air

The reason why most analysts had earlier dismissed the possibility of a Retina MacBook Air was simply that a Retina display requires a lot of battery power. But given the thin form factor of MacBook Air, it may not be possible for Apple to pack sufficient power punch for the heavy-duty display. And thus, many concluded, Apple will not include a Retina display in its MacBook Air machines.

However, the report from the Taiwanese publication claims that Apple is already in the process of bringing suppliers on board for Retina-equipped MacBook Air models. The report further claims that the upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air machines will include not only Retina displays but also upgraded Intel Haswell chips.

We were told that Apple will unveil these new models by the third quarter of the current year, and that Apple supplier Quanta will soon start shipping the components that would go into these machines. As enticing as this may sound, we will still take this with a grain of salt. While it is quite possible, the battery-power requirements and the contention cited by critics of the idea seem quite valid to us.
