Jelly Bean Reaches 1.2 Percent Android Devices

Android Jelly Bean is the latest iteration of the mobile OS by Google. It was launched only two months ago and yet, statistics now report that it has been installed on 1.2 percent of the Android devices already. Ice Cream Sandwich has seen an even bolder growth over last one month.

Android Statistics

Although Android vendors catching up with Ice Cream Sandwich had been slow, the version has now reached a total of 20.9 percent of the Android devices.

A notable trend is that although the catching up of earlier Android versions had been slow, this seems to be improving with time. For instance, Jelly Bean on 1.2 percent of the devices within 2 months is not that bad a pace. However, Android platform still remains highly distributed in its numerous iterations with some 57.5 percent devices still tooling Gingerbread.

Nonetheless, the share of Gingerbread finally seems to be dropping now. During August this year, it had a share of 60.6 percent but that has now dipped by 3 percent. Ice Cream Sandwich seems to be taking the largest bite out of it.

When Motorola launched its new flagship smartphones yesterday, many of us were expecting that they would arrive with Jelly Bean. But the company unveiled them with Ice Cream Sandwich, although promising a Jelly Bean update soon. This may show that Google, who now owns Motorola, may still be highly committed to the Ice Cream Sandwich iteration before going full-throttle on Jelly Bean.
