Printeer – A New 3D Printer Specially Designed For Schoolkids

Now a days, markets are being fulfilled with high tech 3D printers. And now there’s a new 3D printer called Printeer. The very important thing is this 3D printer is specially being designed for schoolkids.

Printeer

Printeer is made by Mission Street Manufacturing, a small startup based in Santa Barbara, California. The people behind making Printeer believe that kids are the most creative people on the planet. And keeping that in mind, they are trying to create Printeer – a colourful 3D printer. Printeer weighs 12 lbs (5.5 kg) and measures (exterior) 16-inch (406 mm) wide x 9-inch (229 mm) deep x 12-inch (305 mm) high. Its build volume measures 6-inch (150 mm) wide x 4-inch (100 mm) deep x 5-inch (125 mm) high.

The printer is made of PLA plastic 1.75 mm filament. It is fully enclosed and has removable print bed. Besides, it has auto bed leveling and wireless access support. The spool capacity of Printeer is 1 lb (0.45 kg) of filament. And the very interesting is this 3DE printer is being built using a variety of open-source software and hardware.

Printeer design software is different from other 3D printers. It runs on iPad. The Printeer makers believe as kids are more comfortable with an iPad than a PC, so it will be very easy to them to use it. Kids will be able to learn the use of it in about 30 seconds. Besides, it doesn’t require any intermediate steps between design and 3D printing. More importantly, there’s no complex software as well as no fancy configuration settings. Just touch the “print” button and watch it go.

Unlike other 3D printers, Printeer doesn’t require advanced technical or engineering skills. It’s very easy to use. One doesn’t need to learn CAD (computer aided design) software, a professional-grade tool that is required to generate the 3D designs used by other 3D printers.

Kids With Printeer And Their Designs

According to the Printeer makers, “Printeer is for today’s kids, tomorrow’s engineers & designers.” The Printeer makers have also said that Printeer is fun for people of all ages, and safe for children with adult supervision. Printeer is perfect for:

  • Homes with elementary, middle, or high-school aged children
  • Science, art, math, or technology classrooms
  • Community centers or libraries
  • Science, art, or children’s museums
  • Scouting troops
  • Summer camps
  • After school programs or daycares
  • Next family gathering
  • Using in schools and for the educators

People Watching Printeer

At present, Mission Street Manufacturing is trying to gather a fund of $50,000 by 8:31 PM (+06:00), July 10 (Thu), 2014 via the popular crowdfunding source, Kickstarter. As of writing, the company has collected $29,465 with 23 days in hand. If you want to participate in the program, you could do that by pledging. The pledging starts from $25.

If the people behind making Printeer hit that goal, they’re aiming to ship the Printeer to backers starting in September. Here’s a video of the Printeer.
