Good news movie freaks and editing maniacs! Avid Studio app for iPad has been just released in its iPad form and is now available for purchase for only $ 4.99. But hurry, prices won’t last! Here’s a couple of goodies you’ll find if you decide to try this out: users can directly capture video, use multiple content source on the tablet (like audio, photos and video), generate motion titles and graphics, trim content, create picture-in-picture effects and tons more.
And all this with touch screen functionality included. Sounds pretty awesome. We can bet this new app will stir some competition for Apple. Tanguy Leborgne, Avid vice president, comments:
“Editing enthusiasts can now use a mobile application that has our industry-leading video editing technology built into it—with the interactive capabilities of iOS—to help them make incredible movies at home or on the go”.
Under these circumstances does Apple’s own iMovie video editing app stand a chance? Well the app supports multitrack audio recording, the accustomed gestures, plus a waveform editor for audio. The app also integrated AirPlay and has a built-in set of theme. But it feels somehow amateurish compared to the Avid Studio one. There are shortcomings.
First off, regarding audio files. In iMovie the only available option is to insert a track as background on your movie. But the thing is, you can’t add just a piece of it, you need to add the whole song. With Avid Studio things are way different. Users get to carve out the music clip however they want and insert it anywhere.Secondly, in iMovie there’s no option of adding a photo or a video over the main movie in the timeline. You have to add the photo/video between screens, which lets face it, it’s not too artistic.
Video management has its short comings in iMovie as well. You are not allowed to use the imported clips off iTunes, but Avid Studio provides that feature. Again Avid win.Judging by what has been described above; we’re hoping that the next generation iPad will bring in a more interesting and complex Movie editing app, or Apple risks loosing its creative fans to Avid Studio.
