Fujifilm’s FinePix XP10 compact camera

Fujifilm’s newest all-action waterproof rugged digital camera has just hit the market. The Fujifilm FinePix XP10 is a rather unique design as it’s rather short and blunt, but comes in several colors and according to a review from PhotographyBlog.com, it can withstand quite a beating…..

Fujifilm USA announces the launch of the FinePix XP10, the first in a new category of super-tough, Four-Proof’ digital compact cameras – Waterproof, Freezeproof, Shockproof and Dustproof.

It’s always hard to justify spending extra for a waterproof camera that will do you good at the beach but deliver mediocre image quality everywhere else. Photography Blog has taken a look at Fujifilm’s new 12 megapixel FinePix XP10 waterproof shooter and, while it predictably falls short of DSLR-level quality (or even high-end compacts), it overall scores a very positive review thanks to its 5x zoom lens, 720p video recording, solid construction, and a “pleasingly compact” design that we think looks very funky (in a good way).

In addition to its resistance to the elements, the Fujifilm FinePix XP10 has a 12-megapixel CCD, a Fujinon 5x optical zoom, sensitivity up to ISO 1600 and an HD video mode. The technological marvels of this unit are carefully hidden in a small package, all-metal, lightweight, durable and elegant that can easily fit in your pocket to become, in time, the witness of all adventures. The new feature of online photos makes sharing images easier and faster than ever.

Just about 21.7mm thin, users can choose from three colors for the camera namely silver, black and green. With four-way protection, the imaging device is protected from drops, water, shocks and dust. Waterproof up to 10 feet, the XP10 is also shockproof up to 3 feet and freezeproof up to 14°F while also being dustproof. It is additionally incorporated with a new Facebook/YouTube Automatic Web Upload function.

The Fujifilm FinePix XP10 digital camera comes in a choice of three different colors – silver, black and green – making it the perfect camera for an extreme outing or just a relaxing night out on the town. The Fujifilm FinePix XP10 is the ultimate lifestyle camera. Consumers can drop it, soak it, freeze it, and even cover it in dirt, and this camera will come out unscathed. Not only is the Fujifilm XP10 waterproof up to 10 feet, but it is also shockproof up to 3 feet, freezeproof up to 14°F and dustproof, giving users total confidence that they can take it with them wherever they go, whatever they are doing, regardless of the conditions.

Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation. “With the intense redesign, the Fujifilm XP10 gives users extreme photographic support by providing them with the ability to take their camera into virtually any type of environment without worrying about it getting damaged.

Now a key consideration for the younger web-savvy generations, the Fujifilm FinePix XP10 features a new Facebook/YouTube Automatic Web Upload function that makes it much faster to post photos on social networking sites. While in playback mode, this feature allows users to ‘mark’ a picture for Facebook or You Tube upload. Then, once the Fujifilm FinePix XP10 is connected to a computer with Fujifilm’s MyFinePix Studio software (included), users upload their images and videos and the marked pictures and videos will automatically transfer to the selected site.

The Fujifilm FinePix XP10 also offers stunning movies in 720p with sound and high quality stills with one touch ease. Many consumers are happy to enjoy HD videos on their PC, but with the new HD Player (optional extra), which comes equipped with a remote control, families can gather around their home HDTV to enjoy amazingly detailed stills and high resolution movie playback.

Created specifically to capture an action shot, the AF function tracks fast moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur. Subjects will be tracked automatically for as long as it is kept in the frame and the shutter is half-pressed; when users fully press the shutter button your subject will be in the centre of the photo in perfect focus.

Features of Fujifilm FinePix XP10 :

• Four protection: shock-resistant (1 m), freezing (-10 ° C), water (3 m) and dust.
• twelve megapixel CCD resolution.
• Fujinon 5x optical zoom (equivalent 36-180mm in 35mm).

• Automatic Mode Recognition Scene (SR AUTO).
• New: Sharing feature on YouTube & FACEBOOK.
• New: Monitoring AF.

• Video Editing Function and Fashion Blog.

The camera’s cause is also helped dramatically by an MSRP of £169.99, or $199.95, and we’re finding this thing available online for way less than that. For that kind of money this thing wouldn’t make a bad side-kick for your go-to camera, a sort of stunty stand-in for when the going gets tough… or perhaps just damp.

I am not happy with this camera. I’ve used many digital cameras before but this one takes the lowest quality pictures of any digital camera I’ve ever used. Perhaps the waterproof and shockproof features have compromised its picture taking quality. I’ve tried various settings with not one turning out good pictures.

The tone of colour and the quality of the tonal rendering of the images is not sensitive and smooth compared to results from other digital camera brands and models.

With regards to video its nice the zoom works during shooting in video mode  however it adds the zooming noises to the final video so I wouldn’t recommend it. The interface for starting and stopping a video is not intuitive even after you have used it several times. The control to stopping a video recording is confusing even though it should be such a simple intuitive feature.

Overall the button positioning is incredibly awkward and the buttons are all positioned in strange places making the camera difficult to hold and shoot pictures. The shape of the camera also makes it very difficult to hold.

The only reason I would buy this camera is for shooting photos underwater – I have not tried this yet.

Well I just bought this camera this summer for my birthday while on vacation in Tx…I bought it at kmart it was on sale…when I got back to Florida I went to the beach a couple of times and tryed it under water and it worked great my kids loved it…but now I’m having trouble with it…it doesn’t want to flash at all 🙁 and it turns off right away by itself…doesn’t stay on not even for 5 minutes…can I fix this???

All the menu buttons quit working, so I can’t change any settings. Only used it a handful of times, but after reading the above, I guess I should be thankful that it even turns on.  BTW, photos are crappy, like looking through milky coke-rim glasses. Bought it as a novelty for my 11-year and the dang thing doesn’t even work.
