Add Ultra-Cool Sci-Fi Movie Like Motion Interaction To Your PC/Mac With $70 “Leap”

Motion interaction is nothing new. Motion-control sensors have been around for quite some time, including some very popular ones such as Microsoft’s Kinect. However, motion interaction directly with computers hasn’t been much common so far. There have been some tools but they haven’t offered such cool motion interactions by the new Leap device.

Imagine that while playing games on your PC, you can shoot away merely by waving your hand in front of the screen. Imagine further that you could writer, created 3D models and do a lot, lot more with similar motions. With the help of Leap, this is possible.

The company that produced the device touts it as the most accurate 3D motion-tracking technology currently available. While Microsoft’s Kinect is also called exceptionally good, Leap may be an apt challenger to it.

The company has released a video demo where users are able to do a whole host of motion interactions with PC/Mac with the help of Leap. In a few words, it is truly impressive:

According to founder of Avid Technology, Bill Warner, “I believe the Leap is the future of how people will interact with their devices. What’s previously been an expensive special effect in movies is now an affordable everyday reality, in full 3-D. With the Leap, you use both hands and all 10 fingers to work within your computer’s virtual environment just as easily as you do in the real world.”

The downside for Leap is that PC usage is increasingly shrinking in face of an explosive growth of the mobile platform. And while Leap can definitely be a winner in the PC arena, if pitched effectively to the users, it will still have to find its use in the mobile arena to be truly dominant. You can pre-order your own Leap device right here.
