iPhone Dev Team has provided the following information about PwnageTool 4.1:
PwnageTool’s main advantage to ramdisk-based methods (limera1n, greenpois0n, redsn0w) is for unlockers — those that need to keep their current baseband and preserve their ultrasn0w unlock. But in this new age of both bootrom- and userland-based exploits, it’s an excellent platform for continuing the jailbreak through all future firmwares.
Just follow the step by step guideline to jailbreak your ones carefully.
Step 1: Download iOS 4.2 GM for iPhone 3GS and iTunes 10.1 beta 2 for Mac.
Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.1.2 and place it on the desktop.
Step 3: Download the latest version of PwnageTool Bundle from here. Extract the downloaded bundle to your desktop.
Step 4: Now, right click on the downloaded PwnageTool and click on “Show Package Contents” from the drop down menu.
Step 5: Go to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste Phone2,1_4.2_8C134.bundle file in this location and close this folder.
Step 6: Put atvBundlePatcher.sh and Info.plist.patch in the same directory as PwnageTool.app (NOT inside the bundle), then run the script.
Step 7: Now start this patched version of PwnageTool, Select iPhone 3GS as your device and you will now notice that PwnageTool will automatically detect iOS 4.2 GM firmware file.
Step 8: If any popup appears asking you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”, select “No” to protect your baseband. Don’t Select “Yes” as it will update your baseband to the latest version.
Step 9: Wait for few seconds, as PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken. You will get a “Success” screen after successfully creating .ipsw file.
Step 10: After this you need to restore your iPhone to the just created custom firmware 4.2 file with Pwnage tool.
Step 11: For this, start iTunes and click on sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button. Now, you will get a prompt to select the location for you custom firmware 4.2. Select the .ipsw file and click “Open”.
Step 12: Now, wait while iTunes automatically performs steps to jailbreak your device. You will see a progress bar indicating the installation in process. Don’t click on anywhere and after installation is complete, your iPhone will restart automatically.
Now, your iOS 4.2 GM is jailbroken on iPhone 3GS using PwnageTool. However, iOs 4.2 public release is also very near and soon we will more jailbreaks for iOS 4.2 final version.Till then stay with us for another jailbreak.
Thanks
