Yahoo To Become The Default Search Engine Of Firefox, Google Out

Google has been Firefox‘s default search engine for the past 10 years. But lately, Firefox has signed deal with Yahoo, making it the default search engine.

Firefox Signs Yahoo, Google Out

Mozilla has announced in its blog that it has signed a 5-year partnership with Yahoo and hence, Yahoo which is powered by Microsoft Bing, is going to be the default search engine for Mozilla’s Firefox browser on mobile and desktop. Yahoo will roll out an enhanced new search function to Firefox users in December, and will also support Do Not Track functions in Firefox as a result of the partnership. The new search experience will feature “a clean, modern and immersive design that reflects input from the Mozilla team.”

The agreement also sets the stage for future product integrations, but so far the companies are keeping quiet on what those might be. In Russia, the default search engine will become Yandex and in China it will remain as Baidu.

Regarding the new partnership Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has said, “At Yahoo, we believe deeply in search – it’s an area of investment, opportunity and growth for us. I can’t wait to see what innovations we build together.”

On the other hand, Mozilla CEO Chris Beard has mentioned, “Google has been the Firefox global search default since 2004. Our agreement came up for renewal this year, and we took this as an opportunity to review our competitive strategy. We believe it will empower more people, in more places with more choice and opportunity to innovate and ultimately put even more people in control over their lives online.”
