Internet activist and computer prodigy Aaron Swartz helped creating an early version of the web feed system RSS, and was best known as a co-founder of Reddit. The ‘unexpected’ news is that he has committed suicide at on Friday, Jan 11.
Swartz was accused of illegally downloading millions of journal articles from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with the intention of posting them on a file-sharing site. He had been fighting to prove himself “innocent”. Few days from now he was supposed to face the court. But he suddenly committed suicide.
Swartz’s uncle confirmed the news saying that his nephew took his own life in his New York City apartment. Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for New York’s chief medical examiner has signed that Swartz had hanged himself and was pronounced dead late Friday in the city’s Brooklyn borough. Swartz’s funeral will be held Tuesday at a synagogue in Highland Park.
It’s a mystery why this young genius committed suicide. Swartz’s family has accused that decisions taken by MIT and U.S. Attorney’s office has contributed to his suicide.
