Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) announced the release of its G-Drive Slim, a 2.5-inch external hard drive billed as the “thinnest hard drive in the world.” Formatted for the Mac, the USB-only G-Drive Slim offers 320GB of storage in a compact, sleek form.

Hitachi’s latest G-Technology G-Drive which offers up to 320GB of storage space alongside USB 2.0 connectivity without making a bulge of itself in your luggage. Boasting Hitachi’s rugged 7mm Travelstar Z5K320 drive inside, this is the thinnest 2.5-inch external hard drive in the world, measuring a mere 128.6mm x 82mm x 9.9mm, while coming in a recyclable aluminum enclosure.

The G-Drive Slim is only formatted for Macintosh computers and is plug-n-play and Time Machine ready. The bus-powered Slim requires only a USB connector, and requires no other wires or power cords to work. The drive offers a 5,400RPM mechanism and a three-year warranty and can be purchased online or at Apple Retail Stores for $99.99.

    It does not matter what manufacturer of PC you have, as long as the HDD has been formatted with something windows recognizes it will work fine- I would suggest exfat. Open Disk Utility and click on the disk (not the volume) it will be called Hitachi GST or something along those lines. Select exfat from the menu and click erase. The downside is that i don’t think it will be bootable.
