500,000 Americans Work In The App Industry

According to a recent report based on a TechNet research, almost 500,000 have a job in the US “app economy.” More precisely, 466,000 people earn their daily revenue from an industry that five years ago didn’t exist. TechNet, described as “the policy and political network of CEOs and Senior Executives that promotes the growth of technology and the innovation economy,” commissioned the revealing study on the app industry and its benefits for the national economy.


As anyone would have guessed already, California, the home of Silicone Valley is place where the most app-oriented jobs are. However, the report revealed that the jobs in this industry are quite well spread across the US.

When it comes to the financial results of this emerging industry, apps brought almost $20 billions. Apple provides the most lucrative environment for the developers, as the study reveals that 124,475 publishers are working to add fresh content to App Store.

Rey Ramsey, Technet president and CEO, pointed out that Apple role in the growing of app economy was undeniable. “America’s App Economy – which had zero jobs before the iPhone was introduced – demonstrates that we can quickly create economic value and jobs through cutting-edge innovation. Today, it is creating jobs in every part of America, employing hundreds of thousands of U.S. workers today and even more in the years to come,” explained Ramsey.

On the other hand, Apple’s rival Google with its 700,000 new activations every day provides a very active platform for the development of the new industry.
