Apple has bought an indoor mobile location positioning company named WifiSLAM for $20 Million. According to a Wall Street Journal report, an Apple spokesman confirmed the acquisition, but didn’t reveal much.
The WifiSLAM started operations 2 years ago, and developed ways for mobile location tracking using Wi-Fi technology.It was offering the technology to developers for indoor mapping. The company’s co-founders include Joseph Huang, former Google software engineering intern.

Apple probably have a strong plan to take its mapping service to the next level. With the technology developed by WifiSLAM, Apple may get into indoor maps. Apple has been increasing its location expertise through acquisitions; these include the acquisitions of Placebase, Poly9, and C3 Technologies earlier.
