When Apple released iOS 6, it brought a whole host of new features to iOS users. Among them was an all-new clock app for iPad. The new look is very slick and neat. Apparently, Apple ripped off the design of the clock from elsewhere.
This was reported in a Swiss newspaper as soon as Apple rolled out the update. The allegation is, Apple has ripped off the design from clocks used in Swiss railway stations.
The Swiss clock design, it is told, was originally created by employees of Swiss Federal Railway service (SBB) in 1944. SBB seems to be quite angry over Apple’s use of the design, citing that whereas they feel flattered, Apple didn’t have any rights to use the design, neither did the company seek permission for it from SBB. And, SBB is now gearing up to launch a legal assault against the tech giant.
In a way, it’s like Apple is going to have a taste of its own medicine. Apple is the very company which patented round corners and other similarly trivial design elements, something which continues to baffle most of the analysts. And it has won huge legal cases on the basis of these very patented design elements.
So now that SBB is after Apple for having used its design, Apple is wrong as per its own standards. And must pay up a substantial sum to make up for the damage done.
