With the rapid growth of the smartphone market and the superior hardware tooled by each new model of smartphones, smartphone users are asking for better and superior connectivity options. Whereas 3G was the next big thing a while go, it has been replaced by 4G as something which is considered top-of-the-list in terms of connectivity speeds.

T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless are two of the major wireless carriers in U.S. Until now, T-Mobile hasn’t exactly started LTE connectivity of its own. It did offer connectivity options which were better than 3G but still not 4G. It seems now that the carrier finally has plans of making the big move.

Now, it has inked a deal with Verizon Wireless which essentially will allow the company to purchase as well as exchange Advanced Wireless Services spectrum licenses. The two will be able to give these licenses in some 218 markets across U.S.

T-Mobile has also been gearing up for a ‘major network modernization plan’ which would essentially be bringing the 4G connectivity to the carrier. With this, T-Mobile will have a fair chance of doubling up on its losses of post-paid customers by making iPhone sales its forte, something it hasn’t been able to do until now.

According to T-Mobile CEO and President Philipp Humm, “This agreement will provide T-Mobile with critical AWS spectrum, enhancing both network capacity and performance and allowing us to meet the growing consumer demand for 4G mobile broadband. This is good for T-Mobile and good for consumers because it will enable T-Mobile to compete even more vigorously with other wireless carriers. We anticipate FCC approval later this summer, in time for us to incorporate this new spectrum into our network modernization and the rollout of LTE services next year.”
