IT Industry Unsure Who To Vote For – Obama Or Romney?

As we near the Presidential elections in US, the campaigns of two chief contestants, Barrack Obama and Mitt Romney, are growing fiercer. So far, nearly all polls have indicated that Obama has better chances. However, the IT industry is fairly unsure as to which of the two will be better for the IT sector, though Obama is still preferred in different quarters.

Obama vs Romney

In a study conducted by CompTIA, the general trend among IT executives is that they are fairly unsure as to which of the two candidates is better for the IT sector. In most areas, an equal percentage of these executives favored Obama and Romney.

However, Barrack Obama was able to amass more sympathies as compared to Romney in five critical areas. These include tax policies, access to capital to advance startups, expansion of tech exports by U.S. businesses, Promote STEM education and ensuring privacy across the digital realm.

In each of these five areas, although Romney is quite close to Obama, Obama is more convincing to a higher percentage of IT executives. However, for many, these results are rather disappointing. While Presidential elections are so close, the IT industry, at large, seems fairly divided and undecided as to who should fare better for IT industry.

According to John Zogby, conductor of the national study, said, “This late into the political season, we are seeing a high level of disengagement from those in the IT sector. This is true across company size, specialization and geographic region.”

The president and chief executive officer of CompTIA, Todd Thibodeaux, “As we gear up for the elections this fall, we’re finding that messages from the candidates have yet to resonate with the IT sector and the challenges and opportunities before the industry. Despite global economic uncertainties, the United States remains a leader in innovation, particularly in technology. Any candidate hoping to win the support of the industry will need to provide a stronger vision for how we retain and expand our leadership in this growing and vibrant IT sector.”
