Microsoft’s Surface tablet is being considered a serious contender, at least in theory, in the tablet market. This is because this is the first actual offering with Windows 8 and that can woo a whole lot of users. However, in the unlikely event of Surface tablet sales picking up, will Microsoft be able to yield the tablet to put up with the sales? A number of reports suggest that this probably won’t be the case.
One of the chief problems in maintaining good yield of Surface tablets is its VaporMg case which is made out of magnesium. This kind of case is not at all easy to produce. The result of that the current supplier of the case does not seem to be able to produce the case in ample amounts, thus diminishing the overall yield of the tablet.
To counter this, Microsoft is said to be working with a ‘second-tier’ vendor for Surface cases. This may help the company bolster the overall yield of Surface tablets. Microsoft aims at being able to produce some 5 million Surface units by the end of this year.
