unable to download firmware software into the tab using the USB cable. both Kies and the mobile are hanging once when we start firmware download into galaxy tab

I was wondering is it possible to upgrade my Galaxy Tab to Android 2.3.
It’s versions are;
Baseband version: P1000XXJK5
Build number: FROYO.XWJJ7
It’s running Android 2.2 currently, and is not under contract from any carrier.
