The iOS jailbreak community has waited long and hard for an untethered jailbreak which would apply to Apple’s latest flagship smartphone, iPhone 5. It has been some four months since the smartphone’s release and thankfully, it seems that we may finally have an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 devices on the coming Sunday.
Interestingly, the jailbreak tool to accomplish this wouldn’t be coming from any of the well-known iOS hacking teams. Rather, there’s a new contender for the crown. The group that is currently working on such a tool calls itself Evad3rs and the tool that will help iPhone 5 users accomplish untethered jailbreak on their devices is called ‘Evasi0n.’
Evidently, Apple tried to make iOS 6.1 a lot more difficult to jailbreak. That is precisely why we have seen such a significant delay in getting a jailbreak tool for iPhone 5. However, the wait seems to near its end.
On its website, Evad3rs claims that it is currently tweaking the graphical user interface of the tool and that if all goes as planned, the tool will be made available come Sunday.
The jailbreak tool will be applicable to a whole range of iOS 6.1 devices, including iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, iPod Touch 4th and 5th-generation as well as iPad mini and iPad 4. If you own any of these devices and have been wanting to wrench free and be able to get a lot more content on your device than that offered by Apple, keep a lookout for the release of Evasi0n.
