I am quiet sure that many of you haven’t heard of Er Wang Dong. Well, Er Wang Dong is a large cave in the Wulong Karst region, in Wulong County of Chongqing Municipality of China. The interesting thing about this huge cave is it has its own weather system!
The Er Wang Dong cave has been variously estimated as 3,000 meters (9,800 ft), 8,297 meters (27,221 ft), or 26,021 meters (85,371 ft). It is large enough to contain its own weather system. There is chamber inside the cave called Cloud Ladder Hall which measures about 5 hectares (12 acres). This chamber is large enough that a layer of fog conceals the roof 250 meters (820 ft) above.
Robbie Shone, one of a team of 15 explorers on a month-long expedition as well as a Manchester photographer who first photographed the cave in September 2013 said, “I had never seen anything quite like the inside cloud ladder before. Thick cloud and fogs hangs in the upper half of the cave, where it gets trapped and unable to escape through the small passage in the roof.”
The team were totally amazed when they discovered the entrance to the hidden Er Wang Dong cave system and were stunned when they managed to climb inside to see a space so large that it can contain a cloud. They discovered that the caves are so large that thick cloud and fog hangs in the upper parts of the underground natural wonder. Here are some images for you.
