Google Hangout brings conversations to life with photos, emoji, and even group video calls for free. If you’re a regular user of Google’s video Hangouts service, you’ll be glad to know that the experience on desktop for this service is about to get a little more stable. Google has announced that Google Hangouts will no longer require a plugin for Chrome users.
In a Google+ post, software engineer Victoria Kirst has announced that in Chrome, users will no longer need to download and install a plugin. In other words, Hangouts video functionality is now completely built in with the browser. Kirst has mentioned, “Just click to start the Hangout, allow Hangouts to use your camera and microphone, and you’ll be good to go.”
Starting sometime in the next few weeks, Google Hangouts will just work in Chrome. Other Hangout-compatible browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox etc will still need the plugin — but Chrome will now have Hangouts support baked right in. On the other side, if you’re on Chrome Canary or another developer build of Chrome, the update is available now.
Although it’s a small improvement, this change should make Hangouts just a little easier to use for newcomers.
