Study Reveals 41% Of US Mobile Phone Users Want iPhone 5

According to a new study from mobile advertising firm inMobi, 39% of UK and 41% of US mobile phone users would buy Apple‘s highly anticipated iPhone 5, but before you chalk this up to the power of the Apple brand, here’s another statistic for you: if Apple only releases an update to iPhone 4 (presumably called iPhone 4S), that figure drops to 12% of UK mobile users. The study further finds that over 50% of those users will make the purchase within the first six months of the iPhone 5 launch and the study finds that consumers are most hopeful for improved battery life; increased processing speed; higher-quality screen resolution; and stronger phone service in the rumored Apple smartphone…………………

Two new studies have revealed rising interest in Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 5 from North American and UK mobile users at the expense of rival mobile platforms from Google and Research in Motion ; one study conducted by mobile ad network InMobi reveals that 41% of mobile phone users in U.S., Mexico and Canada want to buy the iPhone 5 in the future and the ame survey suggests that customer interest will be significantly lower in case Apple announces a softer iPhone update. Earlier in the week, Apple finally announced that it will unveil the next generation iPhone at a media event on October 4th and a survey by mobile advertising firm, InMobi seems to have come to a similar conclusion. The new survey claims to have found that as many as 41 percent of U.S. mobile phone owners and 39 percent of U.K mobile phone owners plan to buy iPhone 5 when it is released. The next generation iPhone will be completely redesigned and will look more like iPod Touch 4G rather than iPhone 4. Some reports claim that fifth generation iPhone will come with improved specifications such as faster processor, 8-megapixel camera etc. just like iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, but won’t feature an all-new design and will look like iPhone 4, which has been unofficially dubbed iPhone 4S. The survey by InMobi also reveals that as many as 48% of these mobile phone users will buy iPhone 5 in the first six months, if Apple launches a redesigned iPhone 5. But if Apple ends up releasing iPhone 4S, then that number will drop drastically. Only 12% of U.K. mobile phone owners will buy iPhone 4S. PaidContent goes on to add:

Drilling down to the purchasing intent of current smartphone owners, it looks like Apple will be drawing a lot of users away from other brands: 45 percent of current BlackBerry users say they will purchase a next-generation iPhone (55 percent in the U.S.), with that figure halved for Android owners, at 24 percent (27 percent in the U.S.). In fact, RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) seems to be suffering most of all in the survey: 18 percent of RIM owners in the UK, and an eyebrow-raising 28 percent in the U.S., said they want the new iPhone even if it is only just a “4S” update and not a completely new generation of the device.
