Before Apple could finally offer a comprehensive and workable model of cloud-based services in the form of iCloud, it has launched and tested a number of other ventures regarding online services. Some of them didn’t work well enough yet others did gain a decent following. One of them, iWork.com which allows online creation and sharing of documents, will be abandoned coming July now that iCloud is finally proving to be a true game-changer.
A lot of Apple users are on iWork.com and so, Apple has announced pre-handedly that they have time till July to save their documents if they stored them using iWork.com. iWork.com is essentially the web-based support for the iWork programs. It enables the users to share their documents online with ease.
This decision is a natural outcome of the immense popularity that iCloud now enjoys. It is becoming more or less a part of everything that Apple is offering, becoming the comprehensive answer to all web-storage related questions. iCloud has a system-wide approach and has a lot of new features which iWork.com platform entirely lacks. It is precisely for this reason that iWork.com has grown a little redundant while iCloud is still a fresh breathe of air, and so Apple is naturally incline to concentrate more on the latter.
The news were broken to the users participating in iWork.com through an email from Apple which stated that the service will be discontinued from July 31 and after that, users won’t be able to access their stored files on the website.
You can follow these steps in order to ensure that you don’t lose any data:
- Go to iWork.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Go to Shared Documents page.
- There is a down-arrow right next to the documents. Click the arrow next to those documents you want to save on your system.
- Select the format for the file and download it
