Tata Wants To Bring The World’s Cheapest Car To U.S. In 3 Years

In 2009, Tata Motors debuted a four seated family car “Tata Nano” (people call it Nano) for sale in its home market of India. It was the cheapest car in the world. Its basic model was priced less than $2,500 during initial launch. But why the least expensive car should be in India only? It should go beyond India. And, Tata Motors wants to bring the Nano in Europe, as well as in the U.S. market.

Tata Motors is planning to bring this world’s cheapest car to the U.S. within three years. Ratan Tata said in an interview, “The U.S. is a very enticing market. We are redesigning the Nano for both Europe and the U.S.”

At present the cost of Nano in India is around $2,700, but the price of this car in the U.S. as well as in Europe will be around three times than the car’s current Indian price. That is, the price won’t be less than $8,000. Though Tata Nano’s engine in India comes with two cylinders and the engine produces a whopping 37 horsepower, for the U.S. the Nano’s engine will be upgraded. The car will have a bigger engine, power steering and traction control.
