LaCie announced the first Thunderbolt portable disk drives a couple of days ago and now it looks like Intel is also ready to get onboard the bandwagon as well. Intel demonstrated olid State Drives with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 support at the IDF 2011, which is suitable for Macs and PCs……………..

Apple released Thunderbolt on their Macbooks with the PC world wishing that USB 3.0 was just as cool and for this you’ll be able to choose between the high transfer speeds of Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 on your PC. Intel recently demonstrated at the IDF 2011, a Solid State Drives  with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 support. Intel’s SSDs are capable of transferring data at extremely high speeds, which is perfect for video editing or creating massive backups in a short amount of time and these SSDs are suitable for Macs and PCs. The demonstration consisted of playing four uncompressed 1080p HD videos simultaneously, directly from a Thunderbolt SSD that was plugged into a Windows PC through a Thunderbolt interface. Data transfer rates were at a constant 700MB+ throughout the demonstration with the videos showing no signs of hiccups or slowing down, a fine testament to the speed of the Thunderbolt-enabled SSD. The  drive isn’t available on the market right now.
