If you hate the need to plug in and plug out your external hard drive when connecting to your computer or a mobile device, here are some good news for you. Seagate has unveiled a new drive called ‘Samsung Wireless‘ which includes Wi-Fi and a built-in battery.
Samsung Wireless is a 1.5-terabyte drive that packs a sleek look and carries a price tag of $179. Naturally, the best feature of this product is that it comes with Wi-Fi. In other words, you don’t have to plug it in and out of your machines and devices. Rather, the drive can connect wirelessly with up to five devices at any given time.
So you can essentially access the drive from your computer, laptop, tablet and smartphone all at once. This makes Samsung Wireless a huge convenience. For now, the drive is compatible with PC, Mac and Android. There’s no word as to whether or not Seagate plans to offer iOS compatibility in the coming days.
The fact that Seagate is offering a product branded after Samsung may seem confusing. Seagate actually bought Samsung’s hard drive business in 2011, which allows Seagate to use Samsung’s branding on its hard drives.
Another major feature of Samsung Wireless is its built-in battery. You can juice up the drive using USB 3.0 and Seagate claims that after a full recharge, the drive is able to last a full seven hours. Compared to the conventional hard drives, this may actually be a minor inconvenience. However, the good part is that you can then use the drive to charge your other mobile devices.
