Australis, the name of the future default theme of Mozilla Firefox, has been under development for a while. Mozilla will be gradually releasing bits and pieces of the theme on the latest releases of Firefox, and it plans to release the new Australis tab strip on Firefox 19, according to reports. This new tab strip features an attractive “smooth and streamlined appearance.” You will notice that a new curved design appears around the active tab.
If development of Firefox 19 go fluently, the Australis tab strip will launch early next year; possibly in February according to Softpedia. The main focus of this new tab redesign is to make the active tab the focal point of the browser. Design work can establish wonders, as the above demonstration from Mozilla points out.
We weren’t able to find out if this feature will be optional, or a permanent change with Firefox 19. With the range of personal preference between Firefox users, many may prefer the older tab strip. This is a detail we will learn as the months fly by.
Mozilla is constantly changing their Firefox browser upon each update. A new redesign isn’t an inevitable necessity, it’s comparable to a person wanting new clothes because they improve the person’s appearance.
