Another old format has finally bitten the dust: Sony announced on April 23 that it will be discontinuing its sales of floppy disks in Japan by March 2011, after 29 years of global market life. The 3.5 floppy disks will take their place among the once-upon-a-time pieces of technology items, and their anachronistic existence in the Millennium markets officially will come to an end.
Surprisingly, Sony is still selling floppy disks in this day and age. In fact, they have reportedly sold around 12 million disks in the Japanese market in 2009!
