Finance Formulator 2.5 for iPad Has Updated

MultiEducator Inc. has announced Finance Formulator 2.5, a major update to their best-selling finance calculator, and the tenth of their 36 iOS apps to now include native support for the iPad. Although the user may touch the “2X” button on their iPad screen when running an app designed for iPhone, this quick-fix often results in grainy, unattractive text and graphics plagued by “jaggies.” MultiEducator plans to have updated iPad native versions of all their apps in release by the end of 2010.

Description

MultiEducator Inc. has announced Finance Formulator 2.5, a major update to their best-selling finance calculator, and the tenth of their 36 iOS apps currently available in the iTunes App Store to now include native support for the iPad. Although the user may touch the “2X” button on their iPad screen when running an app designed for iPhone, this temporary solution usually results in grainy, unattractive text and graphics plagued by “jaggies” (staircase-like edges caused by enlarging bit-mapped images). MultiEducator plans to have updated iPad native versions of all their apps in release by the end of 2010. The company offers three different series of products for iOS: Formulator, History on the Go, and Pocket Tools.

While Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, runs on all its mobile devices, and improves interoperability of software between devices, differing screen resolutions can result in major graphics incompatibilities. The iPad screen resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels, the iPhone Retina display is 960 x 640, and the standard iPhone/iPod touch is 480 x 320. To display bit-mapped text and graphics correctly on all three displays requires that the app or game automatically employ one of three redundant display modes. This amounts to a major update for any software originally designed for the standard iPhone. And while vector graphics (mathematical descriptions of shapes, rather than dots forming shapes) are resolution independent, they are more unwieldy to use in software development and present special software, hardware, and intellectual property issues of their own.

MultiEducator’s popular Formulator series of apps provides discipline-specific formulas, conversions, data, and definitions plus integrated input of variables and calculation. Their Finance Formulator 2.5, originally released in 10/08, is a comprehensive app designed for consumers, students, businessman, bankers, brokers, economists, and financial analysts. It includes over 120 different formulas in the following categories: Business Analysis, Cash Ratios, Conversion, Cost of Capital, Debt Ratios, Depreciation, Equity Ratios, Insurance, Interest, Investments, Mortgage, Personal, Sales Ratios, Stock Calculations, and Technical. With the Version 2.5 update Finance Formulator is now iPad native, all full screen text and graphics displaying smoothly.
