California-based consumer electronics manufacturer Belkin is specialized in making connectivity devices. At CES 2012, Belkin outed WeMo, its brand of electronic components that let users to control their electronics from anywhere using their mobile device. Now Belkin has brought an iOS compatible light switch, and announced that it’s going to add Android compatibility later this year.
Belkin sells various product lines including routers, iPod and iPhone accessories, mobile computing accessories, surge protectors, switches, hubs (USB and computer network), cables, KVM switches, racks and enclosures, and other peripherals in both the consumer and the commercial market. We have already seen Belkin’s various home automation products such as Slingbox TVPlus Media Streamer, ScreenCast TV Adapter, Baby Monitor etc. And Belkin has announced recently that, it will bring a Light Switch that will be compatible both with the iOS and Android device.
The WeMo Light Switch can work over Wi-Fi or mobile internet. When paired with an iOS device, the Light Switch will be able to control lights from anywhere including scheduling via the WeMo app. The WeMo app is already available for any device running iOS 5 or higher. For pairing with Android, the Light Switch will need Ice Cream Sandwich OS (minimum). However, Belkin will unveil the iOS compatible Light Switch first, and the Android compatible Light Switch is supposed to launch this summer or shortly thereafter. Beta testing for pairing the Light Switch with Samsung Galaxy S III will begin next month.
Belkin hasn’t been mentioned what will be the price of WeMo Light Switch.
