Gold Apple Watch May Cost $1,200

Things made of gold are costly; and that’s wonted. Around a week ago, Apple unveiled its long awaited smartwatch Watch, which people had been calling iWatch until release. Apple has confirmed that it will release Gold Apple Watch. A jewelry contact familiar with the matter has mentioned that the Gold Apple Watch may cost as high as $1,200!

Apple Watch Edition With 18 Karat Yellow Gold Alloy

Watch is the first wearable device of Apple. It runs on a brand-new S1 processor and comes with touch-screen display, a flexible Retina Display (with laminated crystal of sapphire), a “digital crown,” along with infrared LEDs and photo diodes that take your pulse and “turn movement into data.” Apart from this, this watch is equipped with a gyro accelerometer and can piggyback off the Wi-Fi and GPS on your phone. It comes in two sizes – 38 mm and 42 mm, and three different finishes, and it includes inductive wireless charging.

Gold Apple Watch

According to Apple’s site, the 18-karat gold used in the Apple Watch Edition has been crafted by the company’s metallurgists to be “twice as hard as standard gold.” It also comes with a polished sapphire crystal display and rumors have suggested the gold watches will come in special boxes that can also be used for charging.

Apple calls Watch as a “Comprehensive health and fitness device.” The Watch is able to take dictation, and it offers very precise synchronized time to plus or minus 50 milliseconds. However, this smartwatch will come in six different bands, some in multiple color options. Apple has confirmed that Watch will be coming early 2015. Its price will start from $349. In addition, the company has also confirmed that there will be a more durable Sport model and a high-end Apple Watch Edition, which will be finished in 18K gold.

But there’s a bit confusion as to whether the Gold Apple Watch will entirely be made of gold, or will it just be gold plated. A jewelry contact familiar with the matter has estimated that the Gold Apple Watch will cost near about $1,200! Chad Rickicki, a watch expert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has said that a case the size and shape of the Apple Watch in 18 carat gold would cost about $600 to make. The rest – the electronics and markup could double that price. Besides, the price may be OK as the Apple Watch has a secret feature – ‘Time Travelling’ and it’s been disclosed in commercial.

Note that, the estimate is based on the leaked design images of the iWatch that has been appeared recently. It’s important to note that you will need an iPhone 5 or higher to use the Watch.
