New iOS Game Dots Musters 1 Million Downloads Within A Week

We have seen Angry Birds, and more recently, Temple Run become hugely popular mobile games across Android and iOS. It now seems that there’s another contender in the arena – a new iOS game Dots has been able to grab 1 million downloads within a week of its launch.

Dots

The game has been developed by betaworks and became the most popular app in eight countries within the first week. In another 15 countries, the app has reached the list of top 5 popular apps. This shows that not only the popularity of the app is huge, it is also widespread which essentially means that the game has successfully enticed a sizable audience.

One of the key reasons for the game’s wild success is that it is fairly addictive. It is simply a creative spin on the classic connect-the-dots game. You try to connect as many like-colored dots as you can at a given time and create a square. Once you accomplish that, the color in question is removed from the board.

While in the game, you can earn ‘power-ups’ and a number of other perks by scoring dots. Alternatively, you can buy in-app purchases and gear up your performance. The best part is that the game is available on the App Store for free. So unless you want to make in-app purchases, you can continue enjoying it without paying a penny.

According to Paul Murphy of Betaworks, “The app is heavily, heavily supported by the social mechanics in the game. So that’s working, and we suspect it will continue to work well.”
