Recently, a very strange problem with iMessages have come to fore. It was highlighted a few days ago a user went to have her iPhone repaired. And when she came back, all messages sent by the person who repaired the iPhone were now also sent to her iPhone. This means she was able to read every message sent and received by him on his iPhone! This was incredible. But Apple has refused to acknowledge this as a bug and states that it is just a rare incident and nothing more.
So hows does that work? According to tech experts, this apparently happened because the guy who repaired the iPhone inserted his own SIM card into the device during the diagnostic process. As soon as he did this, the card registered with Apple’s iMessage servers. And due to that, every message that he later sent or received on his iPhone was also received on the customer’s iPhone.
So what is Apple’s response to this? According to an Apple representative Natalie Harrison, “This was an extremely rare situation that occurred when a retail employee did not follow the correct service procedure and used their personal SIM to help a customer who did not have a working SIM. This resulted in a temporary situation that has since been resolved by the employee.”
However, that still doesn’t answer the question. Yes, the person who repaired the iPhone wasn’t supposed to inert his own SIM into the device. But now we know that when he did, it revealed all his messages to another device. So this definitely looks like a bug and Apple ought to look into it since it can put people’s private information at risk.
