The initial iOS 10 Apple pushed out has some minor software issue, that caused several iPhone and iPad to before unusable after the update, and required to restore, erasing all the data in the process. But Apple was fast to respond, now they rolled out version iOS 10.0.1 and it fixed those issue. I have tested it in my iPad Air 2, iPhone 6 and iPhone 5 SE as well, and all went very smoothly.
I wrote this very detail article about updating to iOS 9 last year. This is a must read now too. This iOS 10 is 1GB or bigger download OTA for all devices.
So, it’s safe to update. It could take anywhere between 30 min to over an hour for the update to finish, if you are doing OTA update directly from the device, make sure you are in good Wifi, and have your Charger handy.
As soon as you are done updating you will be in iOS 10, there is no separate on-boarding process, so you will see the home screen like usual.
Messages is probably one App that got super boost. So many new features. A super nifty option to send heartbeat messages to your loved one.
‘Memories’ is basically the first thing you will notice, it will take awhile to scan and index at the beginning.
Calender got some update as well.
Now you could collaborate with others.
Look and feel basically changed for Music.
Clock: Introducing Bedtime
This is a new feature. One of the most advertised feature of iOS 10 by Apple.
