Apple Becomes World’s Third-Largest Phone Manufacturer

Apple has steadily taken control of the global mobile phone market over the years. While it entered the market only a few years earlier, it has launched a revolution with it’s iPhone devices. And now, as per the reports from IDC, Apple has become the third-largest phone manufacturer. Nokia is still on the top while Samsung is close behind. But Nokia’s share in the global mobile phone market is diminishing very fast and the pace at which Apple’s yearly shipments have increased, we can expect Apple to become the top vendor very soon.

So what are the exact numbers by IDC? According to IDC, currently Nokia stands on top with 26.6% of the market share while Samsung lags a little behind with it’s share of 22%. Apple comes in third with 8.7%. Although Apple still seems far from the top spot, the growth rates of these three giants show why we hope Apple may be in for the top crown.

Nokia has considerably slowed down in the global mobile phone market and in the last year, it reported a major loss. between 2010 and 2011, about 8.2% market share of Nokia eroded into thin year. And that is not a one-time happening. Nokia has officially stated that this loss will continue into 2012, or at least the first quarter of 2012. So we can expect it’s share to diminish even further.

Samsung, however, is doing fairly good and maintained a steady growth of 17.6% during 2011. But even more important is the fact that Apple’s growth rate is higher than both Samsung and Nokia. Apple witnessed a growth of 128.4% from 2010 to 2011!! And Apple’s overall shipments grow by 96% over this one year.

With this excellent growth, and iPhone 5 about to his the shelves this year, we can Apple to march on with the high growth rate. Nokia is fairly out of the competition, for now, unless Windows Phone get really popular on the word go. But that doesn’t seem to be happening.
