Apple Seeking Another Vendor For iPad Production

Apple may be looking to add another iPad manufacturer for its iPad 3 in addition to Foxconn and considering either Quanta Computer or Petagron Technology as the additional manufacturers. Apple could be trying to make sure it doesn’t experience another iPad sales slump and there’s also indication that these steps could be in preparation for a third version of Apple’s popular tablet…………..

Hot on the heels of reports that claim Apple is gearing up to launch a new iPad model this fall and Apple is reportedly planning to add a second manufacturer for its next-generation iPad in an attempt to ease supply issues and minimise the risk of missing shipment targets, Digitimes has revealed. The Cupertino-based company has already partnered with Hon Hai’s Foxconn Electronics but it said to be entertaining offers from Taiwan-based Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology with the later said to have already secured orders for the next-generation iPhone, referred to by many as the iPhone 5. Sources have indicated that because Pegatron already has an outstanding order with Apple, it has a better chance of winning the new iPad contract. Digitimes has also suggested that Apple will name its new iPad device the iPad 2 plus, suggesting it will sport an upgraded (HD) display and a thinner profile. Sources have indicated the device is expected to launch at the end of the third-quarter or early in the fourth quarter, topping 13 million units in the third quarter alone.
