Sharp have launched Galapagos content service and Device in US e-Reader Market in 2011.The company had launched its Galapagos media tablets in Japan recently. The company is looking to secure book publishers and content providers, and content will be provided in the EPUB file format. It is XMDF format in Japan.
America is the first place Sharp plans to introduce their service to, hoping to secure book publishers and similar content providers with content being provided in the EPUB file format. On the matter of actual hardware, the Galapagos e-readers will be equipped with 3G, unlike those currently sold in Japan which are WiFi only.The 5.5 inch eReader also features a TFT LED display, runs Android, and comes with 8GB of storage via a microSDHC card.
The company is also looking into introduce its 5.5 inch and 10.8 inch tablets to China, India, and Brazil, right after the US launch.
