Interested to know how exactly 3D-printing works or what it can do? What if I tell you that with 3D printing, you can make buildings. Yes, you heard me right. China’s private firm WinSun has used giant 3D printers to make 10 full-sized, detached single-storey houses in a day!
The method of 3D printing has become more widely used in recent years. Manufacturers and designers have been able to make everyday items such as jewelry and furniture, as well as more specialized objects like industrial components.
But WinSun decided tp do something different and as a result, the company built 10 full-sized houses in a day with the help of 3D printers.
Xinhua news agency has reported that WinSun used four 10m x 6.6m printers to spray a mixture of cement and construction waste to build the walls, layer by layer. The company used cheap materials used during the printing process.
Ma Yihe, chief executive of WinSun said, “With the 3D printing, we recycle mine tailings into usable materials. And we can print buildings to any digital design our customers bring us. It’s fast and cheap.”
Yihe also said that he hopes this 3D printers can be used to build skyscrapers in the future. No that, at present, Chinese construction regulations do not allow multi-storey 3D-printed houses.
It’s been reported that each house can be printed for under $5,000. Here’s a video of for you guys.
