The Samsung Galaxy Tab has got the popularity to hundreds of thousands of users, but since most of those purchases are from carriers, there are data plans slapped on – and some of those have contracts (like the Sprint version).To tack on a data package you have to bypass the activation screen so you can use your device with Wi-Fi only.
Here’s the code: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. Just kidding.
To get on with your life and right past activation on your fancy new Android tablet, follow these instructions:
1. Press “Volume Up” once.
2. Press “Volume Down” twice.
3. Press “Volume Up” three times.
4. Press “Volume Down” four times.
5. Enjoy!

Doesn’t work on Sprint version – am thinking my tab will be going back to store for refund. Emails to Sprit so far have been unproductive and I refuse to buy their data plan. VERY disappointed as I had chosen this over the iPad. Big mistake on my part. .
Here is the way to set Sprint Galaxy Tab to wi-fi only. This works with both rooted and unrooted tabs but rooted is way better because of titanium backup. Batch backup everything with titanium backup. Then go to SETTINGS/PRIVACY and erase all data. Follow all prompts and reset device. When device resets and comes to first screen about keyboard, skip this step and when you get to Sprint and Wi-Fi : Wi-Fi only set to Wi-Fi only!!! (Very Important Step). Continue through setup of phone if desired. If you use titanium backup, (Important Step) restore missing apps and data but NOT ANY SYSTEM DATA!!! Reconfigure apps and good to go. Remember, Pick Wi-Fi only and NOT Wi-Fi and 3g.. Also remember if using titanium backup to NOT RESTORE ANY SYSTEM DATA, only missing apps and data. Tested and works great.I use Mobile Hotspot from Evo to power Galaxy Tab and $30 dollars for Hotspot unlimited on 4G AND 3G makes capped 3G on Tab useless. I hope this helps…

worked for me on verizon. great! nice trick, as I got stuck internationally and had to change the e-mail on my device, so I thought I’d totally bricked the phone until I called the Verizon guys, who told me this.
also, evidently to re-activate, when I get back to the States, I just have to go into applications / settings/ wireless & networks / roaming capability update to re-activate…
Therewas no keyboard option or anything of the sort…i wasted so much time.. im just going to try and frreeze the sprint thingy…thanks anyway

That was excellent. I almost give up of it. But I got it to skip Verizon’s activation page for using just wi-fi. The moment for pressing the volume butom I did was before select the language for activation and then I skipped the page. Great. Thanks a lot.

When do you do that Up Down trick exactly?! I have a Samsung 10.1″ with Verizon but the seller kept the Sim card so I had to order a blank one from fleabay for $6… Will it work after inserting in a blank Sim card? I don’t want to use Verizon!
