The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has cleared a total of 27 domain names under its new gTLD initiative. The cleared domain names are all non-English.
The approved domain names comprises of Chinese and Arabic names. The approved gTLDs seems to be bestowed upon regional companies mostly. Some of the prominent names include .Qatartelecom and .Mozaic domains.
ICANN has marked the development as an important element for the continued evolution of the internet. “This is not only an important and exciting moment in the New gTLD Program but also in the continuing evolution of the internet,” the press release noted.
