Microsoft Announces 20GB Free SkyDrive Storage For All Windows Phone Users

As the Christmas draws near, tech companies are coming up with newer and more enticing deals. Microsoft has announced an early gift for Windows Phone users who can now get their hands on 20GB of free SkyDrive storage.

Microsoft SkyDrive offer

The deal is a great one for such users who are not only Windows Phone user but are already a part of Microsoft’s online ecosystem. But if you use other alternatives such as Dropbox or Google Drive on your Windows Phone handset, you may want to see if 20GB worth of free storage space is worth switching your cloud storage account.

As with most great deals, this one also comes with a number of limitations. For a start, it must be availed before January 31, 2014 after which Microsoft will no longer offer it. Moreover, once you avail the deal and add the free 20GB to your SkyDrive storage, you will have to actively fill it up.

After one year, if you still have any unused space out of that 20GB, it will disappear. We can easily surmise that a year from now, most of the Windows Phone users who do choose to avail the offer will have a major part of this free storage space unused. So the unused space will vanish and go back to Microsoft which stands to lose little from what appears like a perfectly sweet offer.

    Laughable…

Others have been offering 50GB of free Dropbox space for years.

That’s not counting all the Chinese vendors offering even more, which isn’t any more of a worry than storing it in the US, unless you’re planning to store commercially important things like your patents and product designs, which you should probably store on a few hard drives you dig under in your garden 😛
