According to Facebook Developer Blog, Facebook app notifications are going to be discontinued as of March 1, 2010. The developers are trying to bring a new service instead of notifications of the apps. These notifications are very annoying sometimes, if you use too many apps. E-mail notifications may be introduced as the speculations growing.
For users who hate being bombarded by app notifications in Facebook, this is good news. But it does not mean it the notifications are going to disappear. they have some new options from which they’ll choose one. Facebook recommends using either counters, dashboard news notices or sending users e-mail messages. I think E-mail notifications will be used. I hate this. Because those E-mail notifications are so bulky that I can’t find my important e-mails to read.
Counters, for all intents and purposes, will be just like notifications as they currently exist, except they will be specific to each individual app. If your app is bookmarked in your Facebook page, a counter indicating the number of notices you have from an app.
Facebook has also created a page of best practices for developers communicating with users.
