Despite the fact that social media websites are often at odds with each other, Foursquare apparently wants to be at good terms with others. The social check-in service has now introduced a new feature which includes the handle of a given business (if the business has attached its Twitter account to its Foursquare profile) when a user checks-in from the location of that business.
Business and companies already had the option of linking their Twitter account to their Foursquare profiles. However, this new feature ensures that they get to have a coverage on social media accounts, courtesy their customers.
So, for instance, if you walk to the Star Bucks location in East Village, Manhattan, have a coffee there and check-in using Foursquare, the tweet that will be sent out on your Twitter account will also include the handle of that specific Star Bucks location.
Naturally, the user who checks-in at that place also needs to have a linked Twitter account for this to work. Businesses with a single location can easily hook up their Twitter account to their Foursquare profile. Those with multiple locations but a single Twitter account can go to the tools page on Foursquare and tweak their settings accordingly.
The tools page also gives businesses the option of turning off the feature if they don’t like it. Needless to state, the new feature is a great addition to the whole culture of checking-in since it provides businesses a good presence on the social media sites and also allows users to recommend places more easily.
