Tweeting Lands Hacker Andrew Auernheimer In Solitary Confinement

Andrew Auernheimer was recently sent to prison after a court decided that he shouldn’t have uncovered security loopholes in AT&T systems. Known as a seasoned hacker, Auernheimer was recently moved from regular prison to solitary confinement, apparently for the crime of ‘tweeting.’

The authorities seem adamant in keeping Auernheimer away from internet access of any sort. The intent is probably to keep him from blogging or tweeting. Defying these illegal regulations, Aurenheimer was able to send his tweets to a third-party and through that, have them displayed on his Twitter account.

This greatly irked the authorities who have now put him under 24/7 lockdown. In a letter writer by Aurenheimer, he states, “I am disgusted to have to write an actual paper letter but they took away all my electronic comms methods and put me in the special housing unit where I am under 24/7 lockdown. All this for the high crime of blogging, despite nation B.O.P. [Federal Bureau of Prisons] officials having made public statements that what I was doing wasn’t against the rules.”

He goes on to state that the solitary confinement has virtually cut him from his friends, family and even his attorney, “It has been a week of this and I feel completely alone and abandoned. I don’t even have my loved ones or attorney’s address (they took most of my papers and I happened to have your address on a property slip they didn’t toss). and am unsure when or if anyone will find out about my situation.”

It is absolutely disgusting to note that after having Aurenheimer tried in a highly controversial manner, the authorities seem adamant on using all sorts of tactics to punish him for standing up to a telco giant.
