Yahoo has been clamping down on a number of its older services in recent months. The company rolled out a new email interface a while ago and now, it has announced that it will shut down Yahoo Mail Classic, which features the older interface, on June 3.
Ever since Yahoo rolled out a new email interface, it had been expected that the company would soon shutter the classic counterpart of the service. However, the company has waited until now, apparently to let Yahoo Mail users migrate to the new interface.
Most Yahoo Mail users have already migrated to the new interface and those that haven’t made the switch are the ones who are concerned about the new terms of the service. The above-quoted clause essentially gives Yahoo the right to scan your email on a regular basis and then push out focused ads on your new Yahoo Mail interface. Many people think this as an infringement of privacy rights and we are sure Yahoo stands a significant chance of losing some users over this.
