Meet Disco Chair. It was created out of electroluminescent wire by Kiwi&Pom, and makes me think of a happy Tron future where everything is covered in glowing shapes……
Party season is upon us and as we scrabble around looking for boxes of fairy lights in the attic, design studio Kiwi and Pom have developed what must be the ultimate in party lights!
The “Disco Chair” recently featured in Wallpaper Magazine is a brilliant contradiction between function and flamboyancy.
This is the Disco Chair, the brainchild of Kiwi&Pom, and though we’re not fans of things with the word ‘disco’ in their names, this one is outstanding and beautiful.
It is a statement chair during the day which can easily transform your home into party central by night when the 200 metres of super-bright electroluminescent wires are turned on! It even has a pulse mode to make sure you create that classic disco atmosphere!
According to the designers, “the chair transforms into a neon rainbow when powered. A pulse setting enables the chair to flash on and off creating an instant disco installation.” Get down on it!
Mix the Tron aesthetic with an insistence on rainbow colors and a need for seated comfort, and you get the Disco Flesh by London design firm KIWI & POM. It’s basically the steel frame of a lounge chair wrapped with 200 meters of electroluminescent wire, with the user sitting right on the lighted cable.
The designers were pretty mum about the energy source (though the construction pics make a strong case for wall socket power). But they did reveal a pulse setting that makes the chair change colors like a vibrant hallucination. With all that brilliant color though, sitting on the Disco Flesh seems like such a waste.
Harking from London-based design company Kiwi & Pom, it was made for Wallpaper* magazine. It looks great when turned on, glowing away crazily and even strobing if desired, but when turned off it looks like a kid strung up some brightly-coloured string liquorice between a few planks of wood.
So, whether you are searching for an artistic Light Installation, a chair or some cutting edge party gear, I think Disco chair has it all!
