An upcoming line of toys from Disney is about to take the iPad’s multi-touch display to a whole other level, named Disney Appmates, will be a series of interactive games that use the iPad’s display to enhance the experience of playing with physical toys and characters from the Cars 2 movie will be sold with an accompanying App Store app. The app will be offered up as a free download through iTunes and the cars will run $20 for a two-pack, he different toys unlock different features. The toys will be made available in October through Apple and Disney Stores and other retailers……………….

Broadcom NFC Chips In 40 NM

Broadcom unveiled its first line of near-field communications (NFC) chips for smartphones and the announcement comes on the heels of Google Wallet, a groundbreaking, if small-scale, step intended to popularize the use of phones to pay for items. Its new family of BCM2079x chips have moved to a 40nm manufacturing process which cuts power use by 90-percent and board size by 40-percent and Broadcom claims they’re the smallest and most power efficient NFC chips on the market, which could be used to quickly pair with other gadgets using Bluetooth or stream media to a connected television…………………

Desk Pets TankBot With Android And iOS Support

Exhibited during Toy Fair 2011 in New York, Desk Pets’ TankBot has joined the likes of the HELO TC, Sphere and AR Drone in the growing ranks of smartphone-controlled gizmos and the US$25 bot has individually powered tiny tank-tracks and infrared sensors for free-roaming and maze solving modes. Remote control works using a dongle that plugs into the smartphone’s headphone jack along with the free iOS 4.2 and Android compatible app and the ange is quite limited though, offering up to 3m (9.8ft) and the remote must be pointed toward the front black screen of the Tankbot to work properly. A single 40-minute charge allows the toy to operate for 15 minutes and it has headlights for eyes that flash when the toy is idle………………

HTC Raider 4G For South Korea, Looks Like AT&T’s Holiday

HTC Raider 4G arrives bearing South Korean LTE, looks a lot like the Holiday. The HTC Raider 4G features Google’s Android 2.3.4 OS with Sense UI and features a 4.5-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, and an 8-megapixel camera. The phone offers support for 4G LTE, as well as Asia’s 2,100MHz 3G network, which can theoretically hit 21Mbps download speeds. A front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, a 1,620mAh battery, and the standard fare of connectivity options in Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. The manufacturer hasn’t revealed any plans for an international release, though rumor has it that this Holiday-like device may be heading to AT&T at some point.
