Privately Built 40 Meter Tall Orbital Antares Rocket Launched Successfully

Orbital Sciences Corporation has built a rocket named Antares which will transport cargo to the International Space Station. On Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. ET (2100 GMT), for the first time, the rocket successfully lifted off the ground from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Pad-0A at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. The launch was the first from the pad at Wallops and also the first flight of Antares.

A Meteoroid Streaked Through Sky Over East Coast Last Friday

On March 22, a bright object was spotted up and down the northern mid-Atlantic United States from Maryland to Manhattan to Massachusetts. Streaking across the sky just before 8 p.m. EDT, the fireball was witnessed by thousands of people. Most importantly, the American Meteor Society alone has received over 630 reports on its website from the event. According to NASA’s Meteoride Environment Office, the object might be a meteoroid.
