Logitech Announces First Quarter Results for FY 2012, Company Takes $34M Q1 Charge for Planned Price Reduction on Logitech Revue. With an increase in Asia of 29 percent, an increase in the Americas of 1 percent, and a decrease in EMEA of 14 percent. OEM sales decreased by 16 percent. Logitech’s loss in Q1 was compounded by the significant impact of the decision to reduce the price of Logitech Revue from $249 to $99 during Q2. The action was taken with the goal of accelerating adoption of the Google TV platform by removing price as a barrier to broad consumer acceptance.

BBC iPlayer App Released For European iPads

BBC is offering European users access to British TV programming with the launch of the new global BBC iPlayer app, which is available exclusively on iPad and this brand-new video on demand subscription service will launching first in Western Europe will deliver the award-winning programming upon which the BBC’s history and heritage is built to viewers in 11 markets. It will cost 6.99 euro per month (£6.14) with the option of an annual subscription priced at 49.99 euro (£44) and the international product will look and feel similar to the UK iPlayer, but function in a different way. The app will allow for downloading as well as streaming and marks a pilot phase for the service, which should hopefully reach the former colonial outpost of America before too long……………..

IEEE 802.22-2011 Standard For WRANs

New standards for long range wireless networks have been published, IEEE 802.22 standard for Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs) means that broadband access can be provided over long distances, up to 100 kilometres and it means rural areas could more easily benefit from broadband accesswith developing countries targeted by the IEEE. The engineers at the IEEE have very cleverly managed to use the VHF and UHF bandwidths usually used for TV and they accessing the white-spaces between TV channels at the 54 MHz to 862 MHz, which is possible by using cognitive radio capabilities. This new super WiFi standard promises to bring speeds of up to 22Mbps to devices as far as 60 miles away from the nearest transmitter and the standard carefully exploits swathes of unused white space within transmission bands that were originally reserved for analogue TV……………
