Compal is the latest Android user to sign a patent licensing deal with Microsoft and the news, Microsoft says, means that more than half of the world’s ODMs (Original Design Manufacturing) producing Android and Chrome hardware are paying them for the privilege of doing so. Microsoft also takes the opportunity to criticize rivals that aren’t as forthcoming in protecting manufacturers who use their software and Microsoft has offered a licensing program to makers of Android devices to avoid being sued by the company for allegedly infringing its patents, which was embraced last year by HTC for its mobile phones running Android. Microsoft continues to insist that its licensing program is working as expected and that its approach to patent issues is the best way forward for all parties……………..

Chromebooks Now Available For Business & Education Customers

Google on Sunday announced that education and corporate customers can now purchase Google Chromebooks outside of a pay-per-month 3-year subscription model, new offerings education customers can pick up WiFi models of the Chromebook for $449 and 3G models for $519 while corporate customers are grab the same WiFi machine for $559 with the 3G model available at $639. The new option provides schools and businesses with access to the Web-based administration console for Chromebook management, phone support and hardware warranty coverage, after the first year, customers can opt to pay a monthly fee for management access and support and at that first year is through, customers have the option to sign up for a monthly support contract, at $5 a month for education and $13 a month for enterprise…………….

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus WiFi Coming To US

Samsung officially announced the upcoming availability of its Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet featuring the Peel Smart Remote TV appliation and the 7-inch slate will hit retailers on November 13th for $400, four days before Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet starts shipping. Running Android Honeycomb, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is small, weighs a mere 12 ounces, is just a trim 0.39-inches thick, and features a 7-inch display and there’s no word yet if the slate will use an LCD screen or an AMOLED, but Samsung’s Touchwiz UI should be installed.
